Sapporo 札幌市

Sapporo, capital of the mountainous northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, is famous for its beer, skiing and annual Sapporo Snow Festival featuring enormous ice sculptures. The Sapporo Beer Museum traces the city’s brewing history and has tastings and a beer garden. Ski hills and jumps from the 1972 Winter Olympics are scattered within the city limits, and Niseko, a renowned ski resort, is nearby.

Sapporo is the birthplace of the famous Sapporo Beer. Started as the beer company of the Government Development Commission set up in 1876, it has now become an international brand with fans all across the world.

Sapporo also has a great reputation for food, from ramen (noodles) to kani (crabs). So whenever you go there, you can enjoy something seasonal. Perhaps the key reason to visit this city though is that it offers a new window on Japan and a relaxed atmosphere.
